Safety Check list will Possibly add Underride Rear Guard to it

The FMCSA proposed to add rear impact guards to the inspections list for motor carriers and roadside inspectors. The reason for this is in the past CVSA inspectors did not cite a trucker for damage or loose rear guard. The new proposal will make CVSA inspector in the future take a closer look at the underside, and rear guards. According to Collin Mooney, executive director of the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, there is a “catch all” regulation that requires that the underride guard to not be damaged. However, the decision of the on whether to write up a citation is left up to each the inspector. Adding a rule to add rear impact guards to the annual inspections list will make the rules more defined instead of subjective.
